I think English s the important language. Knowing English increases your chances of getting a good job in a multinational company within your home country or for finding work abroad. I think English skills are considered as the main qualification of many careers.
It's also the language of international communication, the media, and the internet, so learning English is important for socializing and entertainment as well as work.

I think because it is the global language though. Every country can use this language to communicate.
There a lot of countries that have their own language, but other countries didn't know how to speak them though.
So when people go in another country, they will choose to speak english first cause people know it.
