Yes, I like Esan food. Somtum is my favorite Esan food. A spicy papaya salad comprised of shredded green papaya, green beans, tomatoes, peanuts, lime, dried shrimp, garlic, chili peppers, fish sauce, and palm sugar. All the ingredients are pounded together in a mortar and the result is a salty, tangy, slightly sweet and sometimes very spicy, crispy salad. I love to eat with sticky rice that I can grab a small ball of sticky rice in your fingers, dip it into the green papaya salad dressing, and then pop it in your mouth. It's delicious.
