Proper lighting: I can't stress enough on this part. If your room is too bright or too dim, you would find it difficult to concentrate for extended periods of time. So make sure you have the precise amount of light to enable a smooth reading experience. Use curtains to block the blinding sunlight, use CFLs for white light instead of yellow light bulbs. Make sure that the light is falling directly on the book. More importantly, make sure it is not directly falling on your eyes.
