Does accent matter to you? Empty Does accent matter to you?

Post by 32suankaew044 Fri Dec 06, 2019 5:48 pm

For me, I don't think accent matters.
Communication is about creating understanding between people.
I think people have their own accent and it is a thing that makes them unique.
Me myself, I have a mixed-accent because I have been taught by so many different English teachers from over the world.
I once forced myself speaking with a British accent and I found it was so exhusted.
I spoke like a robot so I stopped.
Now I speak in a way I feel most comfortable and think of the people who are listening whether they will understand my words or not.
If they understand, that's it.

In my point of view, I don't worry about accent so it doesn't matter to me.
In addition, pronunciation is more important than accent.
I concern about pronunciation more than accent because pronunciation is the key to make people understand the message I send.
Accent is just an element which makes conversation become more natural like native speakers.

Personally, I do not think about the accent. Because Thai accent is does not matter. If you use Thai accent. It does not matter.
So, I have to improve my accent too! Accent is the one thing in all of things that we use in English. That is the reason why we have to improve our English.

From my experience, I met someone who matter with the accent of speaking English. She tried get that stuff inside my head. She always said that /ca:nt/ was perfect accent, in contrary, /ca:nt/ in the American account is so out of date and it was related to Thai local language. In my I think it is very bad. She should look for it more and open mind. In my opinion, any acceent you want to speak. But I consider about the accuracy of speaking such as beginning and ending sounds.

From my opinion, I think it is matters when I am not use English fluently.
I think some accents are difficult to understand as a beginner such as British accent.
I cannot understand some sentences if I did not open the subtitle.
It takes time to learn but if I used to it, I think accent does not matter too.

From my point of view, I don't mind that much for accents.
We can have any accents. What really important is pronunciation.
Using English more effectively is to have a clear pronunciation.
However the most important one is when a reciever can get what we want to communicate with them.
English is fun! Just speak out!

Wow!!!! This question is absolutely wonderful. I think that this stuff is totally important!!!
In my opinion, I believe that the accent never matters to me and whoever.
You may wonder why I think like that, right? I would like to say that the accent is useless if you still mispronounce the word!!
So we have to pay more attention to pronunciation than accent.

In my point of view, when it comes to speaking, accent doesn't matter. I have many foreign friends and they have their own accents.
I think those various accents are very wonderful. Accent shows where we come from. I also have a Thai accent when I speak and I don't mind it at all. I love my unique accent.
The key of speaking is not accent but pronunciation. As long as you pronounce it correctly, the listener will understand you.

Well, as you know, there are many accent that we will hear from many different person and countries from around the world. In my opinion, Different accent does matter to me. The reason why I say this is that I can only understand clearly for american accent. One more accent that I can understand is Middle-East accent and Mexican accent. I will understand only most of the word that has a common sound with the word in American accent. Although an accent does matter to me, I will keep being open-minded and I will try to listen to many accents.

The accents do not matter but the way that you speak is important. Humans use languages to communicate thoughts, ideas and feelings so in my opinion, as long as you can be easily understand what people say, accents is not necessary. I think the pronunciation and grammar is enough for speaking. If your accent is perfect but mispronounce in words, people will not understand what you say. Thus, the accents does not matter for me.

I do not think it is a clever idea to consider accents important when it comes to communication! I do believe that correct and clear pronunciation seems to be more effective! It is our duty to try to pronounce words in the language we are speaking clearly and accurately to get our messages across! Some people might claim that they are speaking British English; others might say they are speaking American English! To me, it does not really matter! I have my own accent and identity! There is no need to hinder my own identity! My purpose is just to try to speak clearly and phonetically accurately!

I don't really care about the accent that much. Judging other's accent is very ashamed. I admire who can speak very near native speakers. It means that they put much effort into their practice. The most important thing about speaking English is pronunciation. If your pronunciation is clear, you can achieve the purpose of communication.

Some people might think that accent is not important, the way you can communicate them is more important. But for me, I've concerned about this just a little bit. Because I just want to make my prononciation as good as those native speakers. But I'm not that good at it, haha.

Not really. There are many accents out there in this world. As long as people can understand what you are trying to convey, just speak! It is important to focus on your language used rather than your accent. If your accent is so American, yet your English does not make any sense, it means that you fail in communication. Accent is not a focal point in the conversation. Therefore, it does not matter AT ALL.

Not really. I don't mind about the accent. As long as, I can communicate with people effectively, whatever accents do not matter at all. We are living in an international world that people can communicate with others. We don't need to worry about what and how we should say. We need to focus on the messages that we convey to others. As I am going to be an English teacher, I will teach my students to be confident in their own accents. Moreover, I will encourage them to use the English language in a productive way.

Hm.. no! It doesn’t matter to have a Thai accent or whatever accents.
I think the thing that bother me is the thought about having accent.
The main important thing is to communicate and understand each other.
Why all people don’t think in my way?

No, the accent is not matters, but it usually doesn't matter very much. A person's accent is part of their history and their identity. Different accents reflect the richness of civilisation and culture. The important thing is to be able to communicate with others, be they native or non-native speakers.

Personally, I do not mind about the accent.
I sometimes have a problem with their pronunciation.
I think the accent is not important but may accent be the part of my miss understanding.
Anyway, if I do not understand them I say"again please, slowly please" it's better.

Yes, it does.
I don't understand some accents even it is Thai if the speaker say it with their local accent.
So in English, it is too hard to understand the accent I have never heard before.

The accent only matters where a listener cannot understand what is being said because of the accent. Some accents can be so thick that an English listener can have a lot of difficulties understanding the point. Examples are the strong Glaswegian accent, some, but it all, Indian and African accents.

Yes, your accent matters, but it usually doesn't matter very much. If people understand your English well, your accent is probably not a problem. It may even help you. In some careers (restaurants, hotels, fashion, etc.)
